Allier génératrice et système solaire: deux mondes irréconciliables?

To combine generator and solar system: two irreconcilable worlds?

Today, we are dealing with a subject that may seem a little contradictory: to combine a generator with its solar system.

We agree, when we equip solar, it is often to reduce its dependence on fossil energies and avoid the noise that comes with this kind of equipment.

At the time of system design, 3 factors come into play:

The need for energy (what absolutely must work)

The expected time of use

The frequency of use

However, it happens that sometimes, despite all the good intentions of everyone, the system does not manage to meet the demand: The weather has been boring for several days, see weeks, the system has worked plus a long time or has powered plus devices than expected.

For example, we have work done which will last 1 or 2 weeks and which will require the use of energy-consuming power tools, use electrical heating once in the fall. You know, this kind of use that only happens once or twice and doesn't justify getting the system bigger.

It is in these times that the generator can be interesting. It acts a bit like an emergency exit to allow you to enjoy the amenities of the chalet, but above all to keep a charge or even to recharge a good part of your batteries. You should know that a battery who loses his charge is complete too often sees his lifespan reduced.

We agree, this is nothing dramatic, but considering that battery is still among the plus expensive components of a system, it is better to take care of it as best we can.

This means that the generator is a good ally, but for certain occasional occasions only.

Accessories to integrate

To integrate a generator into its system, you will preferably need an automatic or manual transfer switch (commonly known as switch transfer), and a battery charger. These devices will make sure to protect your system and transform the current 120V of the generator into energy for batteries.

Different amperings are available. To find the one for you, consider how your batteries are mounted (in 6, 12 or 24V) and how fast the load you want to get.

The models we offer are those of the IOTA and Powermax brands.

If you're train. train to look for a inverter, you can watch the Vicron brand Multiplus and Quattro and some Magnum products. These devices make it possible to transform the current into 120V and recharge your batteries in plus.

Convenient to pry 2 birds with one stone.
